“… deliciously engaging… funny… truthful... More, please, Mr. Edelfelt.”

— Cabaret Scenes

“David Edelfelt “probably sounds great singing the weather forecast… he’s just blessed with a luxuriant instrument.”

— Chicago Tribune

There was a time I thought I would pursue performing as a career. But I finally came to understand that my true calling had more to do with working with others than always being the one on stage. So gradually, I established myself as teacher and coach, and gave up performing.

Eventually though, I realized that although I believe my primary calling is in the role of teacher, there is a part of me that still loves to perform! So around 2007, I "came out of retirement" and began performing again. I'm grateful for the opportunities that continue to come my way. And I've found that by continuing to perform, I am a better teacher and coach. And not only do audiences seem to be supportive, I'm having a lot of fun!

The first video clip is a brief compilation of excerpts from "De-Lovely" - a Cole Porter tribute that Elizabeth Doyle and I presented first at Davenport's in 2018, and subsequently in other venues including at the oldest cabaret in Paris, Lapin Agile (dating back to 1860) in 2019. The next two video clips were taken at the Park West in Chicago and are excerpts from the 2018 and 2019 annual fall gala of Chicago Cabaret Professionals (CCP) of which I am proud to be a member. In both, I am accompanied by the fabulous Beckie Menzie on piano, Jim Cox on bass and Phil Gratteau on drums.

My Next Performances

Well, it's like this; 2020 appears to have been cancelled! For me, that meant my next new solo show, "Broadway Baritones" which was to be presented in March at both a private event and again at Davenport's Cabaret in Chicago, and then once more in a special expanded two-act version at Moraine Valley Community College in May. The good news is that the latter version IS RESCHEDULED for Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Moraine Valley at both 2:00 and 5:30. My accompanist for this show will be the fabulous Chuck Larkin. Once we know more about the return to smaller venues, I do plan to reschedule this show for Davenport's in 2021 as well.  So stay tuned.  I look forward to sharing with you some of the most beloved music from the last 100 years of Broadway, and some fun stories to weave it all together. This is one you won't want to miss!

Another canceled appearance was our return to the 34th annual Elkhart Jazz Festival in Elkhart, IN in June which we greatly missed -  "we" being my musical compatriot, singer and jazz pianist extraordinaire Elizabeth Doyle, and the talented Charles Troy, master musical historian. Once again, we are rescheduled for 2021; stay tuned for details.

Not to be redundant but Elizabeth Doyle and I also were canceled for our Cole Porter review "De-Lovely" as headliners at the Cole Porter Foundation this June - AND yes, we are indeed planning to bring it there in June of 2021. Crossing fingers for all of it!

Of course while most live performances are not happening for the foreseeable future, you can always pick up either of my CDs; they're both still available at cdbaby.com. Questions?
